Readstown

Readstown currently has a population of about 395 with 216 housing units. The Village‘s busy location, at the intersections of Highway 14/61, is approximately 8 miles from Viroqua and about 16 miles from Richland Center.

Apparently & according to the Village website,
Readstown was founded by a Daniel Read around 1847, hence the name Readstown.  Back then there was a log mill and a grist mill that helps the town prosperous in those bygone times.  No doubt, the fact that the Kickapoo River is located on the boarder of this town was a important factor in the mills operation and history. Times have changed and many local residents might know the Readstown of today for its popular supper club, The Kickapoo Inn. There is also the Kickapoo Corners Restaurant, which is a favorite luncheon stop for many, a great place for a slice of pie & a cup of coffee.  Because of its corner location and their good size parking lot; it is a very convenient meeting place.  Almost all the Realtors I know during my career have found it a convenient place to meet up with their out of the area customers.  Another fixture in this town are the 2 liquidator stores; there you can always find a bargain if you have some extra time to stop and shop
